Doe Deere is the goddess of the cosmetics industry. Lime Crime was founded in 2008 and since then the company has seen year-over-year growth. At the time she founded Lime Crime, Doe Deere was studying fashion and she had the goal of becoming a clothing designer. She had consistently made her own clothing designs she was just a very young girl. She shared a vivid memory of playing a make believe game with some of her friends when they were younger. She felt that the game was not going to be complete without full dress up. She took the time to design clothing for the game by hand as well as lavishly style everyone’s makeup. During her time in fashion design school, she began to heavily question if clothing design was really her true destiny. She felt like a piece of her was missing, like she wasn’t completing her life’s true mission. She had already chosen the name Lime Crime and launched it as a line of her clothing design. In 2008 she made the decision to leave school and turn Lime Crime into a line of cosmetics.

 

Lime Crime originally started out a small store on eBay where she sold her cosmetics. Her first line had a small collection of eyeshadows, lipsticks, highlighters, bronzers and a few other items. She officially launched her website as a sales medium. Within just one year Lime Crime had become a profitable company with a loyal following of customers. The company base continued to grow thanks to the creativity of the products as well as the creative packaging catching the eyes of friends of current Lime Crime customers. It soon grew to the point where Doe Deere was ready to hire staff and expand into the company Lime Crime has become today.

 

One of the things that makes Lime Crime such a success was Doe Deere’s decision to put her digital strategy as a top priority to grow the company. In the beginning, she gained a loyal following by putting out a series of video tutorials. In the videos, she showcased her skills for makeup application and utilized Lime Crime products. These videos led directly to new customers and a multitude of sales. However, her main source of new customers has always been from referrals.
