Social Justice Becomes Increasngly Important To Many Different Groups

The fight for social justice is no longer the sole concern of private individuals, but has become a cause taken up by major charitable groups who are looking to develop a new range of options to protect the individuals who are most at risk in society. From the Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund to the George Soros backed Open Society Foundations, there are many groups now setting out to protect civil rights and the freedoms sought by all people.

The Open Society Foundations has been at the heart of many of the good causes and civil rights fights taken up in many different parts of the world over the last three decades; backed by billionaire George Soros, the Open Society Foundations has made its way across the planet with programs undertaken in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. Many people question why North America is a primary focus for the Open Society Foundations, but the need to fight for the rights secured for every citizen by the U.S. Constitution is ongoing in the eyes of those running the Open Society Foundations who are constantly monitoring the changing political climate of the world to protect human rights at all levels.

An example of why human rights need to be fought for in every area of the world can be found in the Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund that was launched by journalists Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin; the founders of Phoenix New Times were awarded $3.75 million in damages after being illegally detained by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio following an investigation into his activities.

The award was taken by the journalists and used to establish the Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund that looks to protect the rights of minority groups along the U.S. Mexico border.

Both Larkin and Lacey have used their newspapers and Online media to protect the First Amendment rights of all U.S. citizens and those within the country, which were threatened when the investigation into the Arizona based Sheriff Joe Arpaio resulted in a court decision to reveal the identity of all those who read Online stories about Sheriff Arpaio. The Frontera Fund has done much to aid those living in Arizona which has included the Arizona Justice Project that seeks to fight for the rights of indigenous people from the region.

Groups such as the Open Society Foundations and Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund are fighting for the rights of individuals on a regular basis. Read more: Michael Larcey | Twitter and Michael Larcey | Facebook
